What is Amuma ?

Amuma is a professional freediving school and a community-driven project in Siquijor.

We offer freediving courses for beginners and advanced divers, guided by certified instructors, in a safe and relaxed environment. Whether you want to discover apnea for the first time or improve your depth and technique, our courses are designed to help you progress with confidence.

More than just a freediving center, Amuma is a collaborative initiative that addresses limited job opportunities and the lack of specialized training, inspiring growth, resilience, and a brighter future for the Siquijor community.

OUR MISSION

Empowering the local community with essential safety skills and better job opportunities

We envision a future where local guides, fishermen, and spearfishers have the skills and knowledge to thrive. Through AIDA-certified educational programs offered at a “pay what you want” price, we help locals become certified freediving guides or enhance their safety in the ocean.

Currently, more than twelve guides and spearfishers are training under a certified AIDA Master Instructor, progressing through AIDA 2, AIDA 3, and AIDA 4 courses.

As a Student

Here, learning goes beyond the classroom. You’ll be guided by skilled, passionate instructors while immersing yourself in an authentic, welcoming community.

Life flows naturally—kids play, neighbors chat, and connections grow. This isn’t a polished tourist space; it’s a genuine reflection of Tubod and Siquijor—laid-back, real, and deeply enriching. More than just learning, you’ll experience a meaningful journey that stays with you.

As an Instructor

If you’re a certified freelance freediving instructor, you’re welcome to teach from our school. You can use our moorings, equipment, and space for theory sessions while being part of a positive, community-driven project. A nearby pool is also available for Static and Dynamic sessions.
