About Amuma Freediving Project
Since 2024, Amuma has been committed to making a positive and lasting impact on the local community by providing freediving education to local spearfishers and marine guides.
Through our training, they gain crucial safety knowledge, helping them protect both themselves and the underwater world they rely on.

Our Mission
The school’s goal is not to make people dependent on a salary or a specific place, but rather to empower them with greater independence by teaching essential skills relevant to local jobs and activities.
This includes providing access to knowledge vital for their safety and equipping them with the necessary tools to access better job opportunities.
Our Values
This project is centered around sharing knowledge.
We also consider ourselves students of the beauty within this community, learning from its practices of mutual care and interconnectedness.
What we bring is a skill set – one that contributes to and reinforces what is already in place.
Who Will Benefit From The Project?

MARINE SANCTUARY GUIDES
Marine guides are professionals who lead tourists through the island’s various marine sanctuaries.
Using freediving, they showcase the breathtaking underwater world while relying on strong safety skills to ensure a secure and enjoyable experience for their clients.
FISHERMEN
Fishermen on the island use freediving to provide food for their families. They use it while spearfishing or when using fishing nets to scare the fish into them.

ALL OF US
Our freediving school is an intercultural and intergenerational initiative driven by a strong spirit of cooperation.
Everyone involved—donors, volunteers, and freedivers, whether locals or tourists. not only contribute to a meaningful and impactful initiative but also become part of something greater, growing positively as individuals.
Our Work
Simplifying AIDA educational material
Our educational team is dedicated to simplifying AIDA courses, making them accessible to all students, regardless of their education or English proficiency. We offer a streamlined version of the AIDA 2, 3, and 4 courses, available at a “pay what you want” price.
This process requires a significant amount of time and effort, as we’ve completely redesigned the AIDA theory booklet, condensing it into a concise 12-page version with essential information.
Next, we plan to translate the booklet into Tagalog. This resource will be freely available to anyone interested in incorporating community-based learning into their freedive shop. It can also be translated into other languages, helping expand the reach of the project globally.
Theory Classes and Training Sessions
As part of the program, our students get theoretical lessons, pool practice, and open water sessions with a certified AIDA Master Instructor—all at an affordable price.

Theory sessions
We installed a simplified version of the AIDA 2 theory content on the walls of the school, free for anyone to read.

Pool Sessions
Pool training is accessible to all guides and spearfishers who are willing to enroll in an AIDA 2 class.
They are able to borrow material and learn the basics of safety, static and dynamic.

Open Water Sessions
Guides and spearfishers join the line trainings, gaining skills in security, equalization, breath hold, swimming technique, and more.
The Future

Exporting a Model
Amuma’s vision goes beyond the island. After training local guides, we aim to share this model with other regions and countries.
Our simplified AIDA courses are available for instructors worldwide who want to be part of this movement and create a positive impact in their communities.
